Provenance Engineering provided design support and value engineering review of this renovation to the existing 8-MGD wastewater treatment plant improvements project. The project improvement was $7 million. Our team worked closely with the design engineering team to identify opportunities for operational improvements, cost savings and ways to expedite construction.
Challenges
The clarifiers had dome covers that had to be removed for improvements to take place. However, there was an overhead power line directly above the dome covers. Also, the original shutdown plan called for almost a dozen different shutdowns of the aeration basins to replace multiple gates that were frozen.
Solutions
Our team developed a solution to remove the domes without the cost of bringing in a large crane and lessen the risk of electrocution. Provenance also presented a solution that would reduce the number of required plant shutdowns during construction from 12 to two during the slide gate replacement.
